 Cool Colors influence our state of mind. Cool Running is an acrylic abstract that offers a tranquil respite with some fun thrown in. The cool colors of blue and green provide a feeling of calmness and freshness, as they remind us of things like water, ice or grass.

In fact, research shows that color can play a major role in our overall state of well-being. The colors we surround ourselves with directly influence the way we feel. Some positive traits of blue are loyalty, authority, reliability and an offering of quiet and nurturing. Even green supposedly inspires harmony. Since green is nature’s most abundant color, it promotes emotional balance and serenity. Like being in touch with nature and the peace within yourself.

Even though blue is the universally favored color, I think life and this painting would be quite boring and of little interest without a balance of some warm accents. With the application of raw sienna and iridescent bright gold the story of the painting unfolds. Of course, the use of white always adds brightness and dimension to artwork.

In the end, it is not just the use of colors that gives the painting its life. It is the angles, the long and short brush strokes, and the intertwining of shapes that begin to make the painting speak. Even a few twist and drips of movement add to the story and balance of the painting.

With all that said, I named this painting “Cool Running”. For I find the piece with mostly cool colors to be optimistic and happy; representing calm, endurance, growth, and spirited peace.
