Cool Spirit
Proverbs 17.27: He who restrains his words has knowledge, And he who has a cool spirit is a man of understanding.
Talking when we should not say anything is something that can cause us a world of trouble. Most of us, myself included, have a difficult time restraining our words. This is especially the case when we are being provoked or treated unjustly. These are the times when we are tempted to speak – and to speak out of emotion and anything other than a “cool spirit” as defined by the proverb. Wisdom tells us that it is better to use few words than many. It also tells us to use no words at all when we are angry and bitter. Wisdom reminds us that such words are usually spoken out of our unchecked emotions rather than a self-control, higher spirit.
I love how my art stories evolve; and I learn so much more than before I wrote the story. I titled this painting “Cool Spirit” because of the colors used and the feeling it embodies. I researched if there was a specific meaning for these two words. After reading a little about its proverbial meaning, I thought it was such a good lesson for me. One that I could definitely work towards, especially improving my use of words, and of course when I speak them. What type of spirit do you have?
