I think the song “A Whiter Shade of Pale” is the best song by the English rock band, Procol Harum.
My abstract feeling from this song is titled “A Brighter Shade of Pale”. Perhaps if you are old enough or familiar with music from 1967 or 70s era, you might remember the song called “A Whiter Shade of Pale” song by Procol Harum.
For indeed, I love this song with its smokey, organ-centric feeling. And how can you not like a song that begins with “We skipped the light fandango”. Additionally, the band was named after a cat, a friend’s Siamese cat – Procol Harum. But later, it was discovered that Procol Harum in fact meant ‘Beyond these things’.
Since my paintings are abstract, I feel they are often beyond these things and given that I have always liked this classic rock song, I name this particular abstract with a slight twist from the song:
“A Brighter Shade of Pale”.

“A Whiter Shade of Pale” Lyrics:
We skipped the light fandango
Turned cartwheels ‘cross the floor
I was feeling kinda seasick
But the crowd called out for more
The room was humming harder
As the ceiling flew away
When we called out for another drink
The waiter brought a tray
And so it was that later
As the miller told his tale
That her face, at first just ghostly,
Turned a whiter shade of pale
She said, ‘There is no reason
And the truth is plain to see.’
But I wandered through my playing cards
And would not let her be
One of sixteen vestal virgins
Who were leaving for the coast
And although my eyes were open
They might have just as well’ve been closed
And so it was that later
As the miller told his tale
That her face, at first just ghostly,
Turned a whiter shade of pale
And so it was that later
