I’m going back someday, Come what may, To Blue Bayou.

Yes, I am a Louisiana girl and definitely relate to Linda Ronstadt’s song – “Blue Bayou”.

Louisiana is rich in culture, spirit, and life that has been a part of me since the day I was born. Indeed, many of my paintings reflect the influenced of my 18 years of living in that colorful state. I have fond memories of catching and of course, eating crawfish. Definitely, experiencing all the culinary delights that we would cook. As well as, playing in the sugar cane fields, climbing those massive oak trees with their moss dripping down. Not to mention, many a day spent fishing the different bayous.

My Bayou Experiences

So yes, I like the bayous and love to venture down them in my brother’s boat. For, happy times abound when we are traversing the intricate bayou waterways. Gazing upon the multitude of interesting and fascinating wildlife.  The fish are spawning among the water hyacinths and the frogs are throbbing in the cattails. Cypress trees are calling out to us. Even, the air has its own smell.  Its beauty captures my soul with peace and allows me to reflect on the wonder of this special environment.

“Do you know what it means to miss New Orleans. When that’s where you left your heart. The moonlight on the bayou a creole tune that fills the air. I dream about magnolias in bloom and I’m wishin’ I was there.”
– Louis Armstrong

In fact, I know I will always return to feel the magic and mysterious essence of the bayou. This acrylic contemporary painting with its indigo and light blues intertwined with shades of greens and yellows and a sparkle of red is my abstract way to travel back to the bayou.

The song was written by Roy Orbison and Joe Melson. Orbison originally sang and recorded it. He even had an international hit with his version in 1963. However, Linda Ronstadt made it her signature song. Additionally, she scored a Top 5 hit with her cover in 1977. If you would like to hear Linda Rontadt’s version of the song, the link along with the Lyrics are below.

Blue Bayou – Linda Ronstadt

Lyrics

I feel so bad I got a worried mind
I’m so lonesome all the time
Since I left my baby behind
On Blue Bayou

Saving nickles, saving dimes
Working til the sun don’t shine
Looking forward to happier times
On Blue Bayou

I’m going back someday
Come what may
To Blue Bayou

Where the folks are fun
And the world is mine
On Blue Bayou

Where those fishing boats
With their sails afloat
If I could only see
That familiar sunrise
Through sleepy eyes
How happy I’d be

Gonna see my baby again
Gonna be with some of my friends
Maybe I’ll feel better again
On Blue Bayou

Saving nickles saving dimes
Working til the sun don’t shine
Looking forward to happier times
On Blue Bayou

I’m going back someday
Come what may
To Blue Bayou

Where the folks are fun
And the world is mine
On Blue Bayou

Where those fishing boats
With their sails afloat
If I could only see
That familiar sunrise
Through sleepy eyes
How happy I’d be

Oh that boy of mine
By my side
The silver moon
And the evening tide
Oh some sweet day
Gonna take away
This hurting inside
Well I’ll never be blue
My dreams come true
On Blue Bayou
