Baton Rouge – SOLD
Louisiana State Motto is “Union, Justice, and Confidence”.
Baton Rouge, the capital of Louisiana, means “red stick” in French. It was named after a bloody pole in the town that held the heads of several dead animals, marking the boundary between two tribal hunting grounds. Louisiana has the tallest state capitol building in the United States; the building is 450 feet tall with 34 floors.
As a child and young teenager, I loved our trips to Baton Rouge. Whether it was for shopping (which didn’t happen too often) or visiting relatives living there, it was always fun to see the city and cross the Mississippi River. This particular painting with its many facets of color and directions just made me think of Baton Rouge.
