Above are a few lyrics from the song titled “Crystal Blue Persuasion” which was sung by Tommy James & the Shondells. For, the song was released in 1969 and composed by Eddie Gray, Tommy James, and Mike Vale.

 

Indeed, I like the song with its effervescent sound. When the song was finally released, the band only used 4 instruments – a bongo, a tambourine, a flamenco guitar, and a very light-sounding bass, all other instruments were removed. Which according to Tommy James, allowed the song to have that light airy sound.

 

In addition, James said that “Crystal Blue” is a reference to the Book of Revelation, out of the Bible. Moreover, he said “The imagery was right out of Chapter 19 of the Book of Revelation, about the lake of crystal, and just what John sees. The imagery was just right there. ‘Crystal blue persuasion,’ although those words aren’t used together, it was what the image meant to me.”
