Louisiana Mystic Swamp
The swamps of Louisiana hold such mystery and beauty at the same time. For they are rich in plant and animal life. Did you know, swamps are dominated by trees. In fact, the most common native plants are cypress trees and Spanish moss. Additionally, native animals include alligators and brown pelicans, the Louisiana state bird.
Alligators, frogs, and the many other animals that live in the swamp adapt to the swamp’s fluctuating water levels. The shadowy tree root system and cypress knobs provide a rich, sheltered habitat for nesting birds, as well as fish, amphibians and reptiles.
Swamps are transition areas. They are neither totally land nor totally water which adds to their mystical environment. This painting awakens my many fond experiences of the unique Louisiana mystic swamp life.
