The song Blue Skies is known for its famous line “Nothing but Blue Skies from Now On”. Irving Berlin a Russian-born American composer and songwriter, wrote the song in 1926 as a last-minute addition to the Rodgers and Hart musical “Betsy.” Berlin’s music forms a large part of the Great American Songbook.

Belle Baker introduced the song at the Broadway Musical Betsy where it became a massive hit, earning numerous encores on opening night. It also first reached #1 on an early national music chart way back in 1927 for a performer named Ben Selvin. Willie Nelson’s version topped Billboard’s country singles chart on September 2, 1978. So many others have sung the song such as Ella Fitzgerald, Doris Day, Sarah Samuaelson, but I am still partial to Willie’s famous version.

This small painting is titled “Nothing But Blue Skies” as an expression of positivity and success moving forward. As parts of the lyrics go:
“Blue skies
Smilin’ at me
Nothin’ but blue skies
Do I see
Bluebirds
Singin’ a song
Nothin’ but bluebirds
From now on
Never seen the sun shinin’ so bright
Never saw things goin’ so right
Noticin’ the days hurryin’ by
When you’re in love, my how they fly”
