Hey Brother, Hey Sister is a tribute to my brothers and sisters.
“Hey Brother
There’s an endless road to rediscover
Hey Sister
Know the water’s sweet but blood is thicker”
These lyrics are from the song titled “Hey Brother” by Avicii. I especially like the song; both the lyrics and instrumentals are first-rate. Definitely, the song resonates for me because of my siblings. In fact, I have two brothers and four sisters. Indeed, they are all very dear to me. Each distinctive and special in their own way. For, as the song says:
“Oh, if the sky comes falling down
For you, there’s nothing in this world I wouldn’t do” is so true.
The song is very upbeat and if you look at my two oil paintings titled “Hey Brother”, “Hey Sister”, you will see they are bright, colorful and full of life. Just like my brothers and sisters. One painting represents my brothers, the other my sisters. For even though we are blood, we all have our own gifts, strengths and weakness. Oh, the special times and memories, the seven of us created during our childhood and now as adults. We shared a wealth of life – parents, pets, homes, vacations, celebrations, catastrophes and many a secret. Indeed, the threads of our experiences became so interwoven that we are linked.
“Sisters and brothers just happen, we don’t get to choose them, but they become one of our most cherished relationships.” – Wes Adamson
Brother, Sister Tribute by Red – Diptych Oil Abstract
My bond with my brother and sisters is always special. It is a relationship that really can’t be compared to others. And yes, even though there are times they drive me crazy, I know the relationship is one of the most important relationships I will ever have. For they’ll be there for whatever comes my way in the future. A brother-sister relationship teaches so many things – accepting differences, being emotionally skilled and having each other’s back every time.
So as the song says:
“What if I’m far from home?
Oh brother, I will hear you call
What if I lose it all?
Oh sister, I will help you out
Oh, if the sky comes falling down
For you, there’s nothing in this world I wouldn’t do”
My connection between my brother and sisters is a lifelong connection with everlasting memories. Despite our fights, they encourage, protect and stand by each other at all times. For, the seesaw of a sibling relationship is balanced by love and trust. Truly, there is nothing quite like growing up with brothers and sisters and with 6 siblings it definitely was an adventure.
“Brothers and Sisters: Separated by Distance, Joined by Love.” – Chuck Danes
So, these two oil abstracts created with love and filled with bold, joyful life is homage to my cherished brothers and sisters.
Brother and sister, together as friends, sharing life’s experiences. Joy and laughter or tears and strife, together, we dance through life.

Hey, Brother Lyrics by Avicii
Hey, brother
There’s an endless road to rediscover
Hey, sister
Know the water’s sweet but blood is thicker
Oh, if the sky comes falling down
For you, there’s nothing in this world I wouldn’t do
Hey, brother
Do you still believe in one another?
Hey, sister
Do you still believe in love?
I wonder
Oh, if the sky comes falling down
For you, there’s nothing in this world I wouldn’t do
What if I’m far from home?
Oh brother, I will hear you call
What if I lose it all?
Oh sister, I will help you out
Oh, if the sky comes falling down
For you, there’s nothing in this world I wouldn’t do
Hey, brother
There’s an endless road to rediscover
Hey, sister
Do you still believe in love?
I wonder
Oh, if the sky comes falling down
For you, there’s nothing in this world I wouldn’t do
What if I’m far from home?
Oh brother, I will hear you call
What if I lose it all?
Oh sister, I will help you out
Oh, if the sky comes falling down
For you, there’s nothing in this world I wouldn’t do
