Crossing in the Night – A childhood memory by a southern call. As a Louisiana girl, I have grown up playing on the Mississippi levees, watching the barges traverse the muddy waters, and throwing sticks and rocks into the river. Oh, what fun. For, I loved crossing the river to get to Baton Rouge by ferries that used to operate along different points of the river.
One of the many special times that I recall is watching in complete darkness the many barges and ships casting their eerie glow on the water. The river looked utterly pitch black except for the beautiful iridescent glow from the many ships’ lights crossing and passing each other in the night.
This painting titled “Crossings in the Night” is my abstract capture of this recollection.
