They Sashay by. They Sashay by.
You might be asking yourself what does sashay mean? Well, I like to think of it as a confident walk in an ostentatious yet casual manner, typically with exaggerated movements of the hips and shoulders. Definitely strutting with lots of personality and attitude.
And the song “New Orleans Ladies” written and sung by the band Louisiana’s LeRoux is all about sashaying. So, if you haven’t heard it, I highly recommend listening to it; here is the link: New Orleans Ladies.
Indeed, the song is so sexy, has an excellent beat, great harmony and definitely resonates with me being a Louisiana girl. In fact, this southern anthem was voted Song of the Century by Gambit Magazine. For it simmers with the laid-back feel of the “Big Easy” and evokes images of Bourbon Street and the bayou.
Sashay & Louisiana’s LeRoux
Louisiana’s LeRoux (previously known as LeRoux) is a band founded in Baton Rouge, Louisiana. They are classified as a southern rock and pop rock band. Perhaps you figured this out, but LeRoux takes its name from the Cajun French term for the thick and hearty gravy base that’s used to make a gumbo. Just a side note – I love gumbo and enjoy making it. Then again, I am from Louisiana.
Ok, more about the band. Additionally, the band was popular from 1978 to 1984. Some of their best-known songs are “Take a Ride On a Riverboat” with its 4-part a capella intro, “Nobody Said It Was Easy (Lookin’ For the Lights)” (their highest charting single), “Addicted”, and “Carrie’s Gone”. The band continues to perform live throughout the U.S., mostly at fairs and festivals in the Louisiana area. Furthermore, Louisiana’s LeRoux was inducted into the Louisiana Music Hall of Fame as their 50th inductee. And they even recorded with Tab Benoit.
So, my mixed media painting titled “Sashay” is all about the movements of color and shapes that glide together to say look at me. My colors shimmer and sway as they sashay by.
