“Let your Soulshine
It’s better than sunshine
It’s better than moonshine
Damn sure better than rain”

Maybe you recall the song sung by the Allman Brothers called “Soulshine”. Such a fine special song. For, this is one of those songs that can mean many things to countless people. Indeed, the song simply touches your soul and immediately uplifts you.

The song was written by Warren Haynes in 1993 during his recent move to Nashville. Haynes said that he was going through a rough patch financially and trying to adjust to a new environment. The song came to him while he was driving. He even had to turn back and go home to get pen and paper to write the lyrics down. He kept singing the parts over and over so that he would not forget them.

Soulshine A Success

Soulshine gained success as a concert and fan favorite for the Allman Brothers. When Haynes and bassist Allen Woody formed Gov’t Mule, they took the song with them. Gov’t Mule performs Soulshine live at their concerts.

I still love listening to Gregg Allman sing the song. Just hearing a note or two is enough to brighten my day. Sometimes there are songs that just touch you and make you feel so much. This is one of those songs. The Allman Brothers were truly one of a kind and will live on forever thru their music touching peoples souls.

You can listen to the song on you tube here: “Soulshine” by Allman Brothers Band, 1994.

This painting is titled “Soulshine” for its bright golds and lighter colors contrasted with grays and turquoise. For no matter if a little rain or cloudy day enter your life, may your soul find its way to the sunshine.

If the soul is the principle of life, feeling, thought, and action in humans, I certainly believe my creation of art reflects my soul. My passion to create abstracts is a reflection of my soul. May it shine and let your soul shine on!

“Every production of an artist should be the expression of an adventure of his soul.”
–  W. Somerset Maugham
