Walking in Memphis
Was walking with my feet ten feet off of Beale Walking in Memphis But do I really feel the way I feel?Perhaps you have heard the song “Walking in Memphis” by the artist Marc Cohn. The above lyrics are the refrain for the song.
The song begins with the below lyrics and captures my attention immediately. Especially the beautiful musical intro with Marc playing the piano. I really like Marc Cohn’s sultry voice and great tone.
Put on my blue suede shoes
And I boarded the plane Touched down in the land of the Delta Blues In the middle of the pouring rain W.C. Handy, won’t you look down over me? Yeah, I got a first class ticket But I’m as blue as a boy can beThis song was Marc’s self-titled debut album (Atlantic – 1991). “It spent 23 weeks on the Billboard Hot 100 in 1991, and has since been covered by Cher and Lonestar, among others. But for me, I prefer to listen to Marc’s version which will always inspire and move me. For it never gets old and seems to easily touch my soul. So, if you would like to listen to it just click on the link below, I think you will thoroughly enjoy the experience. Just wait to hear the lyrics “Saw the ghost of Elvis On Union Avenue” or “They’ve got catfish on the table, They’ve got gospel in the air”. The song has much to offer musically and literally.
