Whispering Strokes Oil Abstract

Every artist dips his brush in his own soul and paints his own nature into his pictures.

An artist conveys herself through the strokes she leaves on the canvas. Throughout time, in addition to interpreting colors in order to analyze art, interpreting brushstrokes is also an effective tool. There are many different types of brushstrokes that tell so much about the artist creating them. Some examples of these brushstrokes are fluid, jagged, harsh.

So, what does it say when an artist uses no brush or palette knife to create a piece of artwork? What if those strokes are applied to the canvas only through the artist’s fingers?  Does that tell a different story?

“Art arises when the heart becomes overcast with feelings and the hands hold the brush, trembling, unsure of what will flow, yet what flows is a beauty, so virgin and pure.”
― Jayita Bhattacharjee

 Whispering Strokes Oil Abstract

In fact, this large oil abstract titled “Whispering Strokes” came to life through no brushes, no palette knives, just my fingers and some great oil paint. The movements are soft and flowing like gentle whispers conveying the story. Perhaps the expressive strokes provide a feeling as fluid as a river or maybe you visualize clouds floating gracefully through the sky.  Even, the color palette with soft blues, whites and greens are breathing life into the painting. The expressive qualities made by my fingers are my mood spilling out onto the canvas.

Attitude is a paintbrush. It colors everything! Antoine de Saint-Exupery

To me, it’s like the difference between a pen and a paintbrush. Music draws from almost the identical place as art does, which really is that intangible – it’s like you’re pulling from the ether. I don’t know where it comes from. Nobody really does. It sort of arrives when it wants to.
Brandon Boyd

As you can see, I do not necessarily need paintbrushes or palette knives to create my paintings. I only need my inner voice to talk through my hands to tell my story or in this case whisper my mood.
